New Paintings in Progress

November 23, 2009

After a great weekend in Dalkey, I have found huge excitement and energy and so immediately harnessed it and put it into two new paintings!! The beginnings of these paintings are photographed here. Look out for the finished pieces at a later date!

New Work in Oils

November 5, 2009

Its been awhile since I have posted anything here, but I have been busy changing from acrylic paint to oils, and I LOVE working in oils. The freedom is absolutely fantastic! The paint moves so much easier, and has also given me a new style where I am using my brushes more and less of my pallette knife. You can come and see the results for real at the Winter Fair in the Dalkey Heritage Centre on the 14th and 15th of November. Please come and say hello, I’d love to meet you.

Commission Work

March 11, 2009

Ocassionally I do take on commissioned work and charge the same prices for the pieces as I would had they not been commissioned. My latest commission has a lovely story behind it….the person who commissioned me goes fishing on his holidays to a rock in the Aran Islands. This rock obviously meant a great deal to him. He had taken some photographs of it, and asked me to paint it, so he could  enjoy it at home when he wasn’t fishing. He never knew what the rock’s name was in english, but it translated from the irish as Cliff of the Wagtail, which was a nice title for the piece. The painting was very successful, and he was more than happy with what I had done. In his words, ‘It turned out exactly as I thought it would’. It now holds pride of place over the fireplace in his sitting room. I found it very rewarding to create something that meant so much.
